A client from Next Neighbor reached out to me via my Iguana Phone Line (239-344-7706) and said she had a big Iguana up a palm tree at her Caxambas area home. The timing was perfect and I loaded up the air rifle and headed off to her neighborhood.

First thing I do upon arrival is to call the Marco Island police dispatch to report who I am, what address I’m at and my predicted time on location. I have a very good relationship with the police force and Chief Tracy Frazzano.  In today’s world, a police report of a “Man with a Gun in My Neighborhood” is a serious situation and communication is key.

While my “Gun” is a pneumatic PCP airgun which shoots soft lead pellets vs. bullets . . . It is still a very formidable looking weapon and is quite capable of the humane elimination of an Iguana at 50 yards with one head shot. Safety and communication are key factors in an urban area.

Upon inspection, sure enough she had a large male about 30+ feet up the palm. While tree shots are somewhat difficult due to the steep angle, they are far better for safety with no background danger that is so prevalent with Iguanas on the ground. The fact that she had the Gulf bordering her property made it all the better for me. My 6 x 24 x 50 scope puts me in virtual touching distance of Iguana and a single head-shot brought him down.

I packed up and headed home – she was happy to be rid of the problem . . . But not 4 blocks later, she called again and on the other side of the house was yet another large Iguana once again, up a Palm tree.  A quick U-Turn later, I was back on site and zeroed in on the second Iguana, this time a female. For my client, the old adage of, TWO Is Better Than ONE – was certainly true today as both of them were about 4 feet long.
